Trend Report

WGSN has cited 'Ceramic' textures and aesthetics as a lifestyle trend for the season of spring/ summer 2011. The ceramic lifestyle makes use of simple textures in an array of whites, creams, and porcelain finishes. This lifestyle trend has inspired many fashion designers in the season of S/S11 where textiles such as lace, and chiffon have been combined to create a style similar to the lifestyle trend. A fine example can be seen in the Erdem S/S11 collection where use of the previously mentioned combinations have been formed in simple, lady-like silhouettes. The trend has made its way down from the catwalk to consumers, this is more commonly known as the trickle down approach to fashion. This trend can now be seen through clothing on the street. Pictured above is a girl at the Brisbane casino, the girl has chosen to wear clothing that is similar to the style that was created by Erdem.

The season of spring/ summer 2011 also gave way to a lifestyle trend in which people were seen moving out of the hustle-and-bustle of big cities and instead moving to more rural areas. This trend has been cited by WGSN as a lifestyle that can also be known as 'New Bohemians' or 'Rich Hippies'. As a consequence of this trend fashion designers followed suit and began to design and create collections that filled the need for a more bohemian way of life. In this same season, S/S11 Anna Sui designed a bohemian inspired collection. The collection consisted of long flowing skirts and dresses exploding with floral and psychedelic prints, and layering with denim jackets and vests thus creating a style with an overall carefree attitude. Pictured above is a QUT university student on campus, her clothing is portraying the similar carefree style of Anna Sui's collection.

In the season of autumn/ winter 2010/11 WGSN noted a lifestyle trend called 'The Feminine Approach'. The report gave indication of the trend of the increasing number of women entrepreneurs. Businesses are now said to be more successful if run by women, as a result of this approaches to marketing and other aspects of life have started to evolve to target women. This lifestyle trend also made its way onto catwalks the as the demand for more business oriented styles emerged. In the same season Balmain showcased a collection that embodied this new lifestyle trend where Blazers and dress pants were the focus. This professional style can now be seen on the streets of Brisbane. The girl above has created a more professional look to this outfit by adding the pinstripe blazer, she informed me that she is currently working full time at a post- production company at West End in Brisbane and aspires to become a producer herself.
